These things are to be known directly, in experience. Understanding them (conceptually) is of very limited usefulness, especially with regards liberation. Only knowing can liberation .... conceptual understanding cannot do that.

Having said that .... Alakshana is pointing to how, when you rest deeply in knowing, you cannot find any characteristics to mind at all.

If you rest in your present experience, say, of seeing something in front of you .... where is that experience? Not where is the object you are looking at ... where is the *experience* of that object. If you rest in knowing, and resist trying to create a conceptual answer to this, you will direct know that you cannot say where that experience is. It doesn't have any characteristics of place or location.

Similarly, how large or small is that experience of what you are seeing? (again, not how large or small is the seen object, but how large or small is the actual experience of it?).

Again, if you have sufficient capacity of attention, and know how to rest in the knowing, you will see that you cannot say anything at all about how large or small that experience is. It lacks any signs or characteristics of size.

Indeed, you cannot find any characteristics at all to that experience, or to any experience. They are all devoid of characteristics.

This is what Alakshana is pointing to.

very best wishes to you in the Dharma ...

ChodpaChodpahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533282351557497598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690635.post-40738720777984173252009-02-18T09:23:00.000+00:002009-02-18T09:23:00.000+00:00what is alakshana ?i am unable to understand.can y...what is alakshana ?i am unable to understand.can you please guide.sandeepsaabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02435348135750854637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690635.post-28629875982908575742009-02-18T07:38:00.000+00:002009-02-18T07:38:00.000+00:00Thank you both for your kind comments .... may you...Thank you both for your kind comments .... may you both be well and happy :-)Chodpahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533282351557497598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690635.post-88839820643045933902009-02-18T07:16:00.000+00:002009-02-18T07:16:00.000+00:00wonderful.thankswonderful.thankssandeepsaabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02435348135750854637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690635.post-72766279389031865512009-02-16T15:49:00.000+00:002009-02-16T15:49:00.000+00:00Much gratitude for your blog, Chodpa!Much gratitude for your blog, Chodpa!Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06231417132642708489noreply@blogger.com
